Renette,The main difference between these laptop layouts is that in the Classic Laptop layout the Alt key is used in combination with other keys on the keyboard to perform JAWS functions, whereas in the Laptop layout, the CapsLock key is used in these combinations. There is a topic in JAWS Help that lists the keystroke combinations for different keyboard layouts. Both keyboard layouts were developed for laptop computers that don't normally have a numeric keypad. Most people, who don't want to carry around an external numeric keypad to plug into their laptop, use the Laptop layout since the Alt key combinations used in the Classic Laptop layout are already in use in many software applications.

Hi In Jaws, under "options", under "basics" under "use keyboard layout", one has two options to choose from when using a laptop: classic laptop and laptop. Can anybody please tell me what the difference is? Thanks.
