to use msn messenger you do not have to have a hotmail account
you can sign up with passport with what ever email you use
    but,
you do have to be able to see the security screen to sign up
and then answer a email to verify
that you do indeed want a passport account

and, if jaws 5 is the version
then, 6.2 messenger is the newest version you can use
it will not work with 7.5 messenger

i am signing my students up with a bluebottle email account
so, i can teach them outlook express, and msn messenter

    Hello Dave!

yes, you need a hotmail account or a MSN account for you to use MSN
Messenger. But, JAWS 5 will not work with MSN Messenger 7.5 and the latest
version of MSN Messenger. JAWS 6.2 works MSN Messenger 6.2 and for the latest
version of MSN Messenger, JAWS 7.0 and 7.1 will do it for you.

If you wish to upgrade to the MSN Messenger 6.2, visit
    http://jfwlite.com/programs.html/

please let me know if this it helps.

jfw,
i probably be in to multiperson messenging.
          Some urgency!
      Thanks.
