  Thanks for that Allan. I tried it but I have no luck. I attached my JFW.INI
below:

  Synth1Name=eloq
  Synth1LongName=Eloquence Software
  Synth1Driver=eloq
  Synth1Port=SoundMAX Digital Audio! Wave Device

  Allan, I want jaws use my built-in sound card which is "SoundMAX Digital
Audio". So, I put on the fourth line, "Synth1Port=SoundMAX Digital Audio! Wave
Device".

  My external sound card is "Creative SB Live 24 Bit External Sound card".

    hi,
    no, what you need to do is, add 1 more line at the bottom. e.g.

    Synth1Name=eloq
    Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
    Synth1Driver=eloq
    Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave Device

    remember, if your .ini file is shown the number others then 1, the 4th line
must follow the number. e.g.

    Synth3Name=eloq
    Synth3LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
    Synth3Driver=eloq
    Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device

      Thanks for the instruction.

      In step 3, the list of lines says,

      Synth1Name=eloq
      Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
      Synth1Driver=eloq

      My question is, do I need to change the"Synth1Driver=eloq
      " by replacing the line in step 4?

      I just want to verify the procedures u gave so I'm sure that I'm on the
right track.

      Weinston.

      This is taken from the Freedom Scientific website and should help you to
set up your soundcards.

      Question:

      I have two sound cards on my computer. How do I make sure JAWS uses the
one I want?

      Answer:

      Many JAWS users who also use music or audio production software want JAWS
and Eloquence to speak through one sound card, while
    using the other for their
      production work. To do this, you need to edit a file called JFW.ini and
install the updated Eloquence Speech driver in the
    accompanying zip file.

      Editing the jfw.ini file:

      1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, browse your hard drive to the
currently running version of JAWS and find the jfw.ini
    file in that folder.

      2. Press ENTER to open.

      3. You should find some lines that read:

      Synth1Name=eloq

      Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS

      Synth1Driver=eloq

      The number doesn't matter, it may be 1, 2, or 3, but it must be the same
for all entries for Eloquence.

      4. Add the following line after the driver line: Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave
Device Of course, you need to make sure that the synth
    number matches the other
      lines, so that if the Driver line read:

      Sytn3Driver=eloq

      Then the port line would read:

      Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device

      The text after the = sign in the Port line comes from Control Panel/Sound
& Multimedia/Audio tab It must be one of the entries
    that can be chosen for Preferred
      Playback device.

      5. Save your changes and exit Notepad.

      Now you must install the updated driver.As long as JAWS is running and
speaking through Eloquence, eloq.jls cannot be simply
    overwritten when unzipping
      the file. You will need to switch to NoSpeech or MS SAPI to get the
eloq.jls to overwrite properly.

      1. Download the file from

      ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/eloq.zip

      2. Unzip the zip file into the root of the active JAWS directory where
you made the change to the jfw.ini file.

      3. Restart JAWS and it should now be speaking from the sound card you
wanted.

      4. If not, make sure the entries are correct in the jfw.ini file and that
your sound card is indeed installed correctly. Most
    audio and music production
      software allows you to select a sound device for it as well, so it can
use one sound card while JAWS uses another.

      Hope this helps.

      Stephen

        stephen,

        Seams, you are using two sound cards with JAWS. May I ask you about
setting up two sound cards using JAWS?

        I'm using a laptop wit built-in sound card and I have one external
sound card. I would like Jaws to use the built-in sound card
    while the window sound skims will go to the external sound card.

        I don't know how to do that. So, I'm hoping you could help me. Thanks
in advance.

          one answer is to purchase a second soundcard.

          i have done this and would never go back to a single soundcard as the
2 work really well enabling me to use jaws at what ever
    volume i want and also all other audio and window sounds at their own level.

            This problem has been posted before, but till now there hasn't been
a solution, the problem being that of Jaws using system
    volume and not having its own.
              If you're listening to audio, as I was this morning, in that
instance the main menu presentation on Jaws 8, and you turn
    up the volume to listen the jaws volume relative to the volume you're
hearing will be very high. It would be very useful to be able
    to turn down the jaws volume so it doesn't blast out at you when it speaks
something that pops up on the screen.
                                  John.
