what os are you using? When did this start and do you remember the last
program you installed or major change you made before the issue began to
manifest its self? You can often end the jaws task which should free you to
restart it or at least to boot the pc normally.

Subject: jaws stopping and refusing to start up

Several times lately, and with both 4.51 and 5, I will
be in the middle of
something and Jaws will totally stop. Other programs are obviously working
and I can hear the computer getting these programs, but Jaws will not come
back on. I also noticed some sort of weird error generating message with
jaws xe or something, and when I closed out that error message there was no
Jaws again. I re-start every single time this happens and Jaws comes back
up then, but this error won't let me shut my computer down or re-start in
the normal way. Because of whatever this blockage in Jaws is, I have to
shut my computer off manually. Like I said other programs are running fine
but Jaws is freezing my shutdown or something in Windows. Any ideas?
