Can't you just tell openbook not to install it's voice? You could a few
versions back when it was Ruby.

A friend of mine had a similar problem before, combined with the problem
of
having both open book and JAWS speaking at the same time. What I did to
avoid complications that result from unloading JFW before Open Book is
started, particularly if you need to correct a mistake you made in running

that program to begin with, was just instruct JFW not to do anything while

the scanning software is running. You can accomplish this by doing the
following:
1: Run Open Book as per normal, with JFW still loaded.
2: Press insert+6 to activate the configuration manager.
3: Select the "set options" menu and arrow down to advanced options. Press

enter on that.
4: You should now be on the "sleep mode enable" checkbox. If it's not
checked, it should be, so press space.
5: Hit the okay button, and exit configuration manager. Yes, you want to
save the changes.
Now, as long as Open Book is the active window, JFW will do absolutely
nothing. It will be as if it simply wasn't loaded. But, if you leave Open
Book running and switch to, for instance, your email program, JFW will
return to its normal function. It's not unloaded, it's just... well, for
lack of a better way to put it, frozen until you need to use it.
