installing jaws 8

hi
tried to install jaws 8 today after removing earlier versions of 7 and 5 and
its shared files as suggested by friends.
having successfully installed it on my school laptop after rebooting, i'm
prompted with the haunting message "application for JAWS has encounted a
problem and needs to close"
obviously, jaws won't load at all no matter what i do, doing a repair,
uninstalling and reinstalling. nothing i do works
i know nuts about registry so i dare not touch it for fear of the worst
some directions please
