Once more, david and Gerald, thank you for your valuable support.

Although the video instructions on the MSE page are of no use to me as a
blind, the other textual information through the help and advanced help
options menus can get me going somehow.

Best regards, smart.

Hello David,

Thanks a lot for the help.

I've done all that, but have pretty no luck with the two help radio buttins.

Best regards, smart.

hello Smart;

if, you go to your desktop,

press the letter M=Microsoft Security Essentials, and press enter.

Now, tab or, shift+tab until you hear,
Home button,
now, you can use the right arrow, to see different menu choices.

if you go to the help, then, use arrow keys, make selection, now tab you
should get some information regarding a certain feature.

example;
Default actions Choose the action to display or apply by default when
Microsoft Security Essentials detects potential threats with the following
alert levels. you will then be taken to:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/helpTopic.aspx?assetid=24cc0df0
-e784-462e-858f-02d093697985

I hope this helps.

Hi Gerald,

Thanks a lot for this information. It's been really very helpful.

It's a pity that the help radio buttons seem to be empty.

The information that one gets from the interface is pretty basic. I fully
understand that it's a freeware, and you don't look a gifted horse in the
mouth.

To know what the software is presently doing when it's active, I go to the
desktop and tab on to the system tray to get the status information.
Alternatively, I can get the same information with the Jaws-key+F11 if there
is no momentary hold up of the system by the process.

Is there perhaps still a better way of doing this with Jaws?

Best regards, smart.

Hi Smart.

You should set quick scan as your default mode. A quick scan takes about 5
minutes and scans only those folders and files where malware is most likely
to hide. You should run a full scan periodically, maybe once a month or so.
A full scan typically takes more than an hour and scans every folder and
file on your PC. Pressing the radio buttons has no effect. To navigate to
the Update, History, Settings and Help tabs, focus on the Home radio button
and use the right arrow key. When focusing on a particular tab, use the tab
key to navigate through the various options and use the JAWS cursor to read
additional information on the page. There is no user guide or manual for
MSE, but the following web site provides a pretty comprehensive overview.
HTH.

Hi Gerald,

What is the difference between quick and full scan? And when can each be
used?

I get no reaction when I press the home radio button on the MSSE interface.
Any explanation?

I have not been able to find a manual for the MS security essentials. Is
there one available?

thanks and best regards, smart.

The best free anti virus program to use with JAWS 9 is Microsoft Security
Essentials. It is more JAWS friendly and lighter on resources than Avast
and AVG.
