Folks,

Yesterday, I posted some instructions on how to find out detail about your
ILM authorization. I may not have properly clarified that I intended for
you to go to the JAWS menu under the startup/programs menu. So here goes
again:
To find out whether you are authorized for the professional eddition:
1. go to your Start menu by pressing the Windows key.
2. Then press "p" to goto programs.
3. Press "j" until you get to the version of JFW for which you are using
then press right arrow to open the submenu. For example JAWS 7.1. Note:
I know this works for versions going back at least to 6.1. Perhaps 5.0
though I do not have an installation to test.
4. press down arrow until you hear "tools submenu" then press right arrow
to open the submenu.
5. Press down arrow until you hear "ILM Authorization Viewer".
6. Press the enter key to execute this viewer.

It may take a few seconds to find and display your information.
You will see a read only edit box showing all your ILM details. This will
include the edition. If you are authorized for the pro version,, there
will be a line which reads:
Edition: Professional
Alt F4 will close the viewer.

Regards.

Tony

Re: findingout the version of jaws I have

Ah, that isn't what you said. You said you went to the jaws folder on
your
desktop and then pressed that key combo. You seem to have meant that you
launched Jaws-- whether this was by clicking on its icon on your desktop,
using a hotkey, or another way isn't the point-- and then, once the
program
was running, you pressed those keys and it spoke that information.

There wasn't any need to explain that you launched Jaws, or how you
launched
it. In fact, wasn't it running already? Or don't you use Jaws all the
time
while e you're at your computer? Let me see if just pressing that
keystroke
in any open application will tell me the Jaws version...
No. If I do it right now, while I'm writing this email, and Jaws is
certainly running, Insert control V still tells me the version of Windows
that's running my computer, just as it did on my desktop. I must be
misunderstanding something.

Is there anyone here who can rephrase this idea so I can try it again?
Let's say you have jaws running already, as most of us do where should
you
be when you press Insert Control V expecting to hear your Jaws version? In

any open application? Or maybe with the Jaws interface onscreen, put up
by
pressing Insert J? Or...?

thanks.

I pressed "j" until Jaws came up, pressed enter and then the keystroke. It
will work to tell you the information for whatever you are working in.

Catherine,

that doesn't make sense to me. I assume you meant you went to the Jaws
icon
on your desktop? Right? Not "folder?" There aren't any folders on your
desktop. That icon is just for launching Jaws.

Anyway, I selected it and pressed the key combo you suggested, and what I
heard was the exact version number of my Windows operating system. Not
anything about jaws.

I went into the Jaws folder on my desktop and pressed control insert v and
got the information.

Oh. Okay. The guy said specifically 7.1,so the logical thing to think
was
that he meant it wasn't available in earlier versions. Thanks.
 .1m,

No. It has been around since at least 6.1.

To find out whether you are authorized for the professional eddition:
Go to the JAWS 7.1 menu then tools menu and enter on ILM Authorization
Viewer. It may take a few seconds to find and display your information.
You will see an edit box showing all your ILM details including the

From the JAWS window, or JAWS context menu if you have it running
from the system tray, go into the help menu, and select about JAWS
for Windows. A dialogue will come up, giving you information like the
current version, your serial number, and some other stuff. I don't
know if that will tell you whether or not you're running JFW
Professional, but it's the best place to look I'd think.
