If you use Firefox go to tools->options then select Content from the list. On that page there is a "Load images automatically" check box. In Internet Explorer the setting is under Tools Options and on the Advanced tab. Honestly I am fairly surprised that you would be set to not load images but I suppose it might have happened. If those boxes are set I'm not sure what's going on.
