You didn't specify your operating your operating system but I'm assuming you have wither winNT or WinXP-pro. These operating systems should have a user called root or administrater who is setup to have full access to the system. A normal user does not, in most cases, have access to things like installing and removing software, installing and removing drivers for devices, etc. If you have administrative access, you have the root password or the password to an account of someone who is an adminstrator, you should logon as that person or have your adminstrator logon as that person, and should be able to remove the files. Sometimes you have files whos permissions are set by other users. If the adminstrator logon setting doesn't allow you to remove the files you wish to delete, then look at the permissions of that file. Use my computer or Windows Explorer arow to the file you wish to delete, then hit alt-enter to view the properties for that file. hit ctrl+tab to go to the security tab, tab till you hear permissions button and tab till you hear a listview. This list contains users who have access to the file. It will say something like "mydoc.doc, everybody full controll" Aroing down might tell you "mydoc.doc sean read". If your current username does not have full control of the file tab to change permissions and select full controll from the listbox which will come up. click addpermissions button click yes if some security dialog comes up, click apply, then click ok. I beleive if you are an administrator, and you are not the owner of the file, you can click the button "take ownership" or change ownership". This will allow you to mess with that file. Of course, if you have winxp-home or 98 or me, none of this discussion applies to you, you have an entirely different problem, and I've just wasted far to many electrons. hth Sean "thaovyngu" <thaovyngu@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx 07/16/2004 03:39 PM Please respond to jfw To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> cc: Subject: Re: deleting files I am sorry, but I was unclear with your explainations. Can you please tell me again how to resolve the problem again (step by step) please?
