I could do this in word perfect 5.1.  It can be done and I have seen it done 
with html and hey, css if you like.  It can be done with a robust free text 
editor.  I hope I didn't say you could create highly demanding word art with 
word pad but I guess if you put your mind to it, you could.  The point being 
though that for anyone who chooses to look and invest a little time and 
energy, the pay offs are and can be tremendous.  I'm not saying don't use 
office.  I'm just saying it is not the only game in town by a long shot.

I'm sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about.  I think you've
got know idea what's involved in the layout of a complex, highly
formatted legal document which has a lengthy style guide that must be
followed.  In addition, we're trying to automate this with the use of
dialogs, document fields, and other automation tools so that our
attorneys and technical staff don't have to be Word experts to turn out
an acceptable document.  To say that it can be done in HTML or in an
enhanced text editor such as WordPad is ludicrous.
