Francis,

Two parts to your query. I'll try them both. If any of these steps are
unclear to you, please write back to the list.

First, here are the steps you need to take to set up the JAWS key to start
JAWS from the keyboard:

1. Place the focus on the JAWS icon in the desktop.

2. Press alt-enter to open properties.

3. Tab through the options until you get to the place to select your JAWS
key. I suggest you press j. From what I can tell, you don't have any
previous JAWS hotkeys on your system, and so it's unlikely j has already
been chosen. Note that you must ignore all other tab choices to this point.

4. Then tab several more times until you hear "Apply." Press the spacebar
here.

5. Tab again until you hear "OK" and press the spacebar again. Note that
you will have already passed the OK button while tabbing through for Apply,
but you must do Apply before OK.

6. Make sure your other applications are closed and reboot your PC.

The next time you need to start JAWS, press control-alt-j. Be sure not to
press either control or alt when creating your hotkey. Just press j, as I
indicate in step 3 above.

Second, many of us have rejected IE 7. I think the best thing is for you to
check whether you have MS automatic updates set in your PC. Here's how you
do that:

1. Go to the control panel. You get there by going to the start menu, then
pressing s until you hear "Settings Menu." Press enter. Then press c for
control panel and press enter again.

2. Press a until you hear "Automatic Updates," and then press enter.

3. Tab twice. You will now hear one of four choices, possibly "Automatic
updates recommended." Arrow up and down these four options until you hear
the one saying you want to be notified when updates are ready but that you
want to choose which ones to download. Keep that setting in place, tab
through to Apply, then tab again to OK.

At that point write back to the list and we'll take you to the next stage.
