OK,  just making sure,  I can't tell you how many times someone's called me
up, I reinstalled the drivers and everything only to find out that the
speakers didn't work because they were unplugged somewhere, computer, the
wall, somewhere, another thing to try is if he's not overly computer
knowledgeable, try the speakers on a walkman or something and make sure they
didn't go bad,  beyond that I think if the other suggestions, checking the
mute check boxes and all are as they should be, reinstalling the driver
might be the best thing to do.
