I think the maximum you can get with a CD R/W is 4X, while a CDR is limited 
only by the speed of your burner.

I have this same problem. Sometimes I can change it, but most of the time 
it's on 4x and doesn't have any other options. I don't know what happened-it 
used to work fine.
