Yes, it is an hTML formatting issue. In HTML, you can use specific terms to denote the beginning and end of a block quote.

I doubt this answers your question the way you want, but for academic and other formal work, I block text by double spacing between the main text and, say, the quotation. Then I indent the entire text to be blocked and double-space again before returning to the main text. If the main text is double-spaced, blocked text will be single-spaced. But this doesn't explain how JAWS picks up that online text is blocked. It sounds like an HTML issue. I'm sure someone else will enlighten us. ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Logue To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 4:44 PM Subject: Re: block quotes Thanks Adrian. I remember seeing how to turn off block quote notification. I would actually like to know how to make block quotes. Should have been more clear about that. If you don't want to hear "block quote" every time, as I don't, here are Denny Huff's instructions on how to tell JAWS not to make this verbalization. Note that he wrote two or three years ago, so you may want to arrow down to HTML instead of pressing "h" in case the menu has changed. I didn't re-test before writing this post. Go to the configuration manager and load the default. Do an alt s for settings. Type an H for HTML. The first tab is text. Tab and uncheck, block quotes. Press enter and do a control s to save. ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Logue To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:45 PM Subject: block quotes Where can I find information about block quotes? I see them on web pages and sometimes in emails. Are people simply writing in "block quote" or is this a special code that Jaws recognises? Bob
