I use Fine Reader7.0, and it works well with JAWS. You can download a try and buy version at: www.abbyyusa.com They now have a newer version Fine Reader8.0. My veersion works well with jaws and I have the keyboard commands to make it work for you should you like. Just let me know. It cost less than half of what Open Book and K1000 does and it does quite well. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeanette To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 12:46 PM Subject: Re: best OCR software compatible with Jaws Rephrasing my question after reading your post. My first scanner was an HP ScanJet 5200C. Then, I used a UMax Astra 5400 and when it ended working, I bought a Canon CanoScan 3200F. I didn't have any problem with those three scanners and jaws and I really like my Canon since it's really fast. In fact, the main issue here is the compatibility between jaws and your preferred OCR software. Then, looking for a scanner bundled with a jaws-friendly photocopier is a good idea. For this reason, depending on what you want to do, choosing a Canon may not be a good idea. The photocopier which is embedded in the CanoScan toolbox is highly graphical and using a braille display to control it is a great plus. HTH, have a nice day. I thought it was HP but now I'm not sure and what features should I look for in a scanner? Jeanette
