Hi,

Here's what I do to get to the email scanning settings:

1. Press Insert+f11 and arrow down to Norton Internet security
auto-protect and press "enter"
2. Up arrow to "Norton Internet Security Options" and press "enter"
3. You should be in a web-like page where you can arrow up and down using
the virtual cursor. Press CTRL+home to move to the top of the page.
4. Arrow down until you hear "Email Protection" and press the space bar.
There is no indication that it is a link, but press the space bar anyway.
5. Arrow down till you hear " check box checked Alt+n Scan outgoing email
messages" and press space bar to uncheck it.
6. Arrow down till you hear "   Alt+M Scan outgoing messages for suspected
worms" and uncheck this too if you like.

Just a note: As I was writing this message and going through the steps as I
press alt+tab to get back to the Norton options the virtual cursor was no
longer active--the PC cursor became active and I wasn't able to arrow up and
down. I'd have to route the Jaws cursor to PC and click somewherre in the
page to get the virtual cursor back.

HTH

Russell

Subject: [atig] Norton 2007, Email Scanning Options

Hi List Members:

I have a request for assistance, please.
I would like to know if there are any other ATIG List members using
specifically Norton 2007Internet Security, XP Home and Jaws 8.x?I am also
using Broadband. I know of only one other with a similar configuration so
far. Both he and I are unable to access the Options icon to disable the
Symantecs Email Scanning feature, for outgoing scanning. When this option is
selected, all outgoing sending, such as files over a few MB and upwards, are
slowed right down considerably. For example, a file of about 8MB can take up
to 20 minutes or more to send, which is pathetic

We have both found by trial and error that an experienced sighted person
is required to do this trick, normally with Jaws unloaded to allow Mouse
access to the Options icon, but it is still difficult even for a sighted
person. We have also tried various earlier versions of Jaws with no success,
such as variants of Jaws 7.x.

Previous Symantecx programs such as Norton 2006 had none of these issues
like "2007" has.
It appears that the 2007 version is heavily biased toward graphics and
Vista, making it very difficult for Jaws in most areas of Norton, but
impossible in the one outlined above.

Setting Jaws Verbosity Graphics to "Labelled" has not helped, either.

Any other ideas, please?

Thanks in advance,
Colin
