Of course jaws is not windows and the shift alt command is a windows and
jaws command like the down arrow. Up arrow etc. Not sure why this is such a
hard concept for jaws users to understand. There is no magic separation
between jaws and windows commands. Every key you press once jaws is loaded
goes threw jaws jaws decides what to do with it and windows only gets it
once jaws has decided what jaws it self needs to do. In effect a screen
reader user controls windows from the screen reader. Every screen reader
works this way. So when you press alt shift jaws sends this command to
windows then does checking to see what happened after it is pressed then it
reports back to you what happened. Same with the up arrow down arrow etc.
you press it jaws gets the command sends it to the program then performs
code asking the program how the moving cursor or high light move then speaks
the information jaws deem relevant.
Now for the uk keyboard it has symbols on it for money and a alt accent key.
I do not know all the things it has for I do not use said keyboard.

No, Jaws isn't Windows, for one thing. If you mean something different,
please express it differently. And it took a long time before someone
explained that this was just how to get Jaws to report that you'd changed
your keyboard layout from English to Russian, let's say. I still have no
idea what you're talking about with this idea of a British English keyboard,

except maybe it's got characters for British money in the uppercase position

on the num row, instead of a dollar sign, a pounds sterling sign, or
something?

I don't mind being wrong, but I would like to know what you're saying.
Thanks.

Windows isn't jaws? I thought jaws read windows? So what it does in windows
is changes the keyboard layout. Jaws then reports to the user the change
that was maid. Not sure I understand the question but I did my best.

It is? Well, Chris, in what sense has it been "enhanced?" Do you actually
mean kidnapped? What is it supposed to do as a purely Windows command? Do
you happen to know? Chirs,
