For me, I never read the same pdf file twice with adobe; I always, upon
opening it, choose the file | save as text menu choice and make a text
file out of it, and then use notepad to read the text file.
On the rare ocasion this doesn't work, it's either because the pdf has
been copy-protected (in which case I try one of the utilities which
removes the copy-protection passwords from a pdf), or it's just a
scanned image with no text (in which case I'll try some utility which
can OCR PDF files).
