Try this. 
Open the start menu and go to the control panel.
select task bar and start menu by pressing the letter T.
Press enter and a dialog box will open.
Tab to the check box that says, hide inactive icons.
Make sure it is not checked.
tab to ok and press enter.  
Close the control panel. 
Then open the system tray with insert f11 and see if it is there.

    No, Insert+F10 brings up the JAWS task list which allows you to switch to 
or minimize running applications. 
    Insert+F11 will list the icons in your system tray.
