Chip,

The thing that frustrates me about all this is that when you get right down
to it, it's document processing and most apps have most if not all feaures.
It should not matter what app you use as it should not matter what browser
you use, but it does because these people foolishly think that if they make
it hard or impossible to use another app they'll get a corner on the market.
In fact, what has happened is that we have a fragmented market and everyone
looses. There are good reasons why a shop might want to use one thing or
another and not to be foreced to due to a lack of capability to import or
export files or to render web pages seamlessly. I do think though that from
some things I have seen, you can do a lot with saving word docs so that they
can be displayed in other word processors and some of it can even be done
through some applications found within office. The sad thing is though that
if you want to work on those documents and have them usable in office, you
have to use office to do it.

I'm sorry, what does this mean?

I think you're saying that MS could work harder on making their
documents easier to translate into different formats? No doubt they
could, and no doubt they could do a better job, but how do you handle
the situations where one Word Processor uses features which just aren't
available in another? There are examples of both to be found between
Word and WordPerfect, and that means that some documents just aren't
going to convert properly.
