Good morning Lauren,

WordPad is primarily a pure text editor but Microsoft Word is a document
editor. This means the files it uses contain a lot of other information about
the documents beyond pure text. This information will confuse a programme like
WordPad.

A true Word file is best opened with MS-Word, not WordPad although there are
other programmes which are supposed to open MS-Word files, programmes like
Duxbury Braille Translation programme and even WordPerfect, OpenBook and K1000.
Truth is though, even these don't always work as advertised.

It may also be that the file format is something else. Do you know the file
extension? things like .DOC for Word, .PDF for Adobe Acrobat, WPD for Word
Perfect and there are dozens of others for those special E-book formats I am
not familiar with.

About the only thing consistent with the computer environment is that few
things are compatible, even after all this time.
