Nobody's presuming. That's why I only asked Barry G. about having Norton A-V. Another list person had this problem last August, and I had it once simply when I renewed my subscription. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 4:13 PM Subject: Re: Word Wierdness with JAWS, maybe not... Hi, Well, that's certainly interesting. But as this message is a few years old, and one has to consider that both applications, in fact all three, have changed considerably since then, I wouldn't presume anything one way or the other. but it would be interesting to learn about a definite connection. ----- Original Message ----- From: "G.W. As for why or how, I haven't the slightest, other than a guess that A-V may be checking Word documents for viruses. Here's a message from Debbie Scales from a few years ago... "there was a problem found with Norton and word with jaws. People using Window Eyes were having the same problem. This solved it for a lot of people, give it a try and see if it helps. Go into the Norton Anti-virus options and use your jaws cursor to find the word miscellaneous. Then left click on the word miscellaneous. If you are using Norton 2003, you may just be able to tab to miscellaneous and press the space bar. But somehow get to the miscellaneous options so that when you tab you find a checkbox for enable office plug ins. Press the space bar to uncheck it. Then tab and enter on okay." ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 3:22 PM Subject: Re: Word Wierdness with JAWS, maybe not... Are you using Norton Anti-Virus? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barry G" <lister@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 28, 2005 12:56 PM Subject: Word Wierdness with JAWS, maybe not... Hi folks, I suspect that this is a Word problem but am not entirely sure. I am using Office 2000 professional, Windows XP Pro & JAWS 5.0. I just started to have a really weird problem that I initially put down to Word but now am not quite so sure. I suddenly stopped being able to move around through word documents with the cursor and JAWS would not read what was being typed. The only way I could read was with Insert+down arrow, reading a paragraph at a time. I got my good lady wife to check out the screen & to my surprise, although the Word toolbars etc. were present at the top of the screen & my document was listed on the task bar, all that was visible where the document should be was the desktop & icons... As I said, JAWS was able to read the text with insert+down arrow. If I went to full screen on the view menu, the document reappeared and all moving/typing functions returned to normal. I tried erasing the normal.dot file, no change, then completely uninstalled and then reinstalled office. Still no joy. As I said, not sure if it is Word or JAWS, anyone got any ideas?
