I realize that they're two distinct programs, but I can't download from either
site.
I don't know how to go about enabling pop-ups or disabling the information bar
that won't allow me to access the particular downloads.

  Claudia,

Windows update won't help you with the Adobe flash player. Windows is
Microsoft and Adobe is Adobe. Here's a message I sent someone about Adobe.
Before you install the flash player, you need to uninstall
the previous version. The tool to do that is here
  http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157

  The flash player is here

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Claudia, next time you try the Windows update, hit alt N after you hear that
ding. It may give you some options.

  Subject: Windows Update Problems!

  Hello,

I am needing some help, with the Windows Update screen. I'm trying to
install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, on a Windows XP laptop
that recently needed to be restored, due to having other issues.
I cannot install any of the latest Windows Update products; I get that beep
on the screen, like it's trying to access a download that it shouldn't, but
I can't figure out how to enable it.
I have disabled the popup blocker settings and tried to adjust other
security settings, but I cannot download anything.
Therefore, I cannot access any sites that I use with my son, that require
the Adobe Flash player. I thought by doing a Windows Update, I could then
install all the latest updates, but I can't even get past the checking for
  updates status.
  Any help would be appreciated!

  Thanks.

  Claudia
