The Jaws version 10.0.1151 works with both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7 machines. If you already have Jaws 10, you do not need to pay to update Jaws to the 64 bit version. I'm not sure if Jaws standerd will work on Windows 7 correctly because Windows 7 RC is an Ultimate edition. I am running Windows 7 RC 32bit, with Jaws 10.0.1151 Professional on my PC. Let me list few things that do not work with Windows 7 RC, and after that you can decide if you still want to install it to your laptop or not. Jaws Related Issues in Windows 7: 1. Pressing Jaws key+F11 doesnt work, instead you have to go to the desktop, and tab to the system trey. 2. Pressing Windows key+ the number key doesnt work. This is new windows 7 hot key to open pinned items in the Taskbar. When you press this keyboard shortcut, Jaws speakes, "Conversation not assigned". 3. You have to select Windows 7 Basic theme, if you do not select it, the Jaws mirror display driver will stop working, and you have to run the Jaws repair wizard to fix the issue. 4. The Windows Calculator doesnt work with Jaws. 5. Jaws doesnt read the text in Notepad correctly. 6. Sometimes Jaws doesn't read the Save As window correctly. 7. When selecting files and folders by pressing SHIFT+Aero Keys, Jaws doesn't speak the selected items. 8. When Pressing CTRL+C to copy the file or text, Jaws doesn't say anything. 9. When there is one file or a folder in Windows Explorer, Jaws doesn't read it correctly. 10. There are several new Windows 7 shortcut keys that do not work with Jaws. Windows 7 RC Related Issues: 1. The All Programs submenu works just like a treeview, but I do not like it. It is very confusing and time consuming. I have sent feedback to Microsoft to allow users to change the treeview to clasic submenu. 2. The PDF reader doesnt work correctly in Windows 7. You can install it, but Jaws will not read correctly some PDF forms, and some documents will not print correctly. I believe that this bug is not related to Jaws. 3. Sometimes you cannot delete or rename a folder. You may have to restart your computer to rename or delete the folder. 4. I'm sure that there are more bugs, maybe other Windows 7 users can add more here. Nice things in Windows 7: 1. I noticed that most applications run faster on Windows 7 RC than Windows Vista. 2. I like the new Windows 7 sound schemes. some of the sound schemes make me smile every time when I hear a sound. . 3. I like the feature to pin items in the Start menu. 4. I like the Device Stage. It lists all the external hardware that is connected to your computer, and it allows you to view its properties. 5. Windows 7 RC supports all of my computer's hardware. 6. I have to go now, I'll add more here later. You can download and install Windows 7 RC from: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx?ITPID=mscomsl If you would like to test Windows 7 Sound Scheme on any other Operating System, you can download and install them from: http://www.jfwcc.co.cc/programs.php Hope this helps, Zaheer Sheikh On 5/19/09, Russell Solowoniuk <rsolowoniuk@xxxxxxx> wrote: > > Hi all, > > > > I'm thinking of installing Windows 7 RC on my laptop.
