HI alan
how are you doing??
look my dear.
JAWS key is the main half of JAWS command's.
when you have to look at the clock to know what time it does which
keystroke do you use?
exactly insert plus F twelve, so insert is you're JAWS key.
insert key is the main side of many JAWS command's and it's
keystroke combination's!!.
in the section below , i'll give you many example's of what i mean in certainly.
announce the current time:
insert plus F twelve. spoken the current date:
insert plus F twelve twice quickly.
unloading JAWS:
insert plus F four.
launch the JAWS help:
insert plus F one.
and JAWS shall describe you're current window or situation , at the
end of that description, you'll hear the following:
press escape to close this message.
insert plus F eleven:
will bring up the system tray when you click it, you'll shall to hear
the following:
select the system tray icon dialog , as an list view , to navagate
press up or down arrow.
insert plus F two , will bring up the list of jaws manager.
to navagate press up or down arrow.
 and so on.
as you could see with me, there is many JAWS command's shall start
with a particular keystroke combination and it dependedly on the jaws
key in mainly.
could i change the JAWS key?
sure , you could change that to other one.
how?
when you take the disision to use diffrent keyboard mode , such as
laptop keyboard style.
to swich to diffrent keyboard layout, choose the following:
swich to JAWS window alt plus J.
open the option's menu alt plus O.
press enter on basic's.
move to use keyboard layout combo box press L to get it more
efficiently and press it once more to swich to laptop keyboard
layout, at the end, press enter to save you're own choice and close
the basic's dialog box.
now you're JAWS key became the cap's lock button.
so you have to use it when you wish to use whatever JAWS command's,
such as our prior example's announce the time, date , selection of
the system tray, etc not certain one.
it will toggle the caps lock function!!.
no, to turn on or off the cap's lock function, press the cap's lock
twice quickly!.
les Modifier key of laptop keyboard layout.
you could discover and explore the keyboard layout when you turn the
keyboard help on.
cap's lock plus one from the number row.
dear alan.
people will not missing around you, even when you ask about
something it might be simple to most of them.
because of it's our owner duties to ask about issues which we don't know!!.
actually, i respected you're question so, i' jumped to answer. and i
hope that my answer is brilliant to you, and wish you all the best!!.
