Thanks Dana, that was very instructive.
  On an unrelated note, JAWS without Dictionary modification, does a superb 
job of pronouncing your name as D O N N A, as you obviously know.
On a guitar list I am on, one fellow named Kelly has to often educate folks 
to the fact that he is not a she and it gets tiresome for him too, FWIW.

Some web pages use an HTML(?) tag to specify the language in which their
text is written. (This, I think, is so that search engines can sort them
according to the language criterion.) When JAWS detects this tag, and the
relevant language driver is installed, the eloquence engine will use the
appropriate accent and pronunciation rules. If a page is coded with multiple
languages, or doesn't specify a language until part way down the page,
you'll hear eloquence switch languages/accents in the middle of a page.
