Sometimes JFW even tells you to do exactly that. Our IT guys tweaked the hardware yesterday, and one of the updates must have been a new video driver. I had to reinstall before work this morning, but it was really simple with a little sighted help, Unlike a recent memory upgrade, JFW took off again without even asking for a reactivation. Hi Mike: I'd try two things; you may need sighted help if JAWS really isn't properly intercepting video because that means it probably isn't talking. Probably what happened is you got a Windows update that updated your video drivers and messed up JAWS Video Intercept. Try re-installing JAWS Video Intercept. To do this: 1. Go to the start menu, then arrow down to the All Programs sub menu and press enter. 2. Press "J" until you hear the JAWS version you are running, 5.0 and press enter. If this is the only thing starting with J on your programs menu, you do not have to press enter. 3. Arrow up to tools and press enter. 4. Arrow up or down to Video Intercept Manager and press enter. 5. You will be presented with a read only box telling you whether or not JAWS Video Intercept is installed. Regardless what it says, tab to the radio buttons and arrow down to the one which says "Install Video Intercept and Re-start System." When you find it, press tab to the execute button and press enter. 6. After a short time, you'll see the same dialog you saw where you installed Video Intercept. Tab to the close button and press enter, then re-start your computer. If JAWS comes up talking, you should be fine. If not, do a JAWS repair. To do this: 1. Go to the start menu, then arrow down to the control panel and press enter. If the control panel is not on the start menu, you will find it under settings. Locate settings, press enter, then press enter again on the first option which will be control panel. 2. Press "A" twice to get to add/remove programs and press enter. 3. Wait for the list of programs to come up. Then, arrow down until you find JAWS 5.0; you cannot press "J" to get to this any quicker. 4. Press tab until you get to the change/remove button and press enter. 5. You will see three radio buttons, modify, repair or remove for JAWS. Arrow to the repair radio button, tab to the next button and press enter. Your JAWS will now be repaired. You may be told to re-start your system. In any case, when the repairs are done, JAWS should work properly. If these two things do not work, I suggest giving FS Tech Support a call or e-mail. Hi folks! Well, I have a rather strange problem on one of my computers at work where jaws version 5.0 has been running successfully for over a year now. I tried to load it a while ago, and I got the message, that jaws is not properly intercepting video. I have not tried to upgrade my version on that computer, so I'm wondering why all of a sudden this could be happening, and how to solve the problem. The video card is the same, and as far as I can tell, so are the drivers. Any help would be appreciated. thanks! -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
