Hi David and Martin, Thanks for the link on Firefox and Jaws. I've downloaded Firefox Friday night and tried it with Jaws 5.1 40 minutes demo in Windows 98 and XP. According to Mozilla.org, you can use it in Windows (98, SE, ME, NT4, 2000, XP), Linux, or MAC OS X. Just 4.7 MB download for Windows. I'll work on the Linux installation next week-end. Anyway, it has many wonderful features but it didn't work properly with Jaws. Firefox has magnification features for sight enhancement as well as keyboard and mouse shortcuts for sight substitution. I'll try it with Braille Display this Monday at the office. Tabbing is fine, the Jaws cursor is Ok, but the virtual PC cursor worked very poorly. Web tabbing for multiple web pages is perfect. However, it seems that the Graphics Labeller is needed everywhere. Now, regarding accessibility with Jaws, I did a search and learnt more about talks between Mozilla.org and Freedom Scientific. It seems that they have finally managed to have a script designed for better access. This morning, I've downloaded the zipped script and I got better results. However, I still had to struggle with the VPC and use the Graphic Labeller for other buttons. I went to Freedom Scientific page to further test Firefox. I had hard time to access their page, but I've managed to survive after repeated attempts. Training may be needed to use Firefox. I think one should try it without making it the default browser. It has many powerful features according to Internet users. I have tried just some of the basic ones and I'm quite satisfied. I'm sure more script fine-tuning will follow. For those who want to know why many web pages are not accessible, use one of the Firefox tools to see beyond their make-up. If you want to try it when other known browsers have bad days, read the full installation info for both Firefox and Jaws script at the following address: README file, Project Name: JAWS Screen Reader Adaptation for Mozilla Firefox http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/s2s/latest/jaws1/home/README-phase2.txt You can download Firefox at www.mozilla.org. It's free! If you do try it, please share your findings with others.
