Just restarting JFW can do it, though, if you're networked, you probably
won't be able to restart it as a service.  Sometimes tapping the Windows
key can even help; it's certainly better than thrashing the life out of
the Alt-key, accompanied by muttered threats and imprecations.

I used to see that problem with Alt refusing to work as well, with
older version of JFW.  What are the "old remedies" of which you speak?
 The only one I know that works for sure is a reboot.  Am I missing
something?
