Allan, did you follow the instructions to select the version for your operating system? Navigate to the heading "Stable: 1.2 - for all users" or go below that to the heading for 1.3 Beta if you're interested in trying the very latest.

Hit enter on the version you want, Windows Mac or Linux.
As it says on the next page that comes up, "Click the appropriate link below, which takes you to the SourceForge download page - don't "save link as.." or "save target as..". The SourceForge download should start automatically. If it does not, click the links in the black panel marked "direct link" or "mirror". Only these links and the automatic download are authorized versions of Audacity. Disable any automatic download managers if the download is incorrect."

Right below that is the following:
? Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista:
Audacity 1.2.6 installer (this is a link so just hit enter on it)

As it says on the next screen, if your download doesn't start automatically, hit enter on "direct link" or try one of the mirror sites.

Yes it takes a few steps, but the links you need are all labeled.
