It was sad, indeed, to hear of Debbie's passing this morning. The best
tribute I can pay to Debbie's memory is the following correspondence I
had with Debbie when she returned to our list last March after being
away with her serious illnesses. Even with her illness and still not
feeling really good, her smiles and good cheer came through loud and
clear. We will truly miss Debbie. I want to extend my deepest
sympathy, my thoughts and my prayers to Tom and the entire Scales
Family.

sincerely,
Dave Weddle

Oh, you are much too kind to me, smile. I'm so sorry that it has taken
me
so long to reply to you. I have been trying to update JFWLite and I
think
that every program on there has a new version, ha ha. I hope that
things
have been going well for you, and hopefully the will get better for me
too!
Letters like yours sure do help, they truly do touch me boost my
spirits. Debbie

What a wonderful surprise it was to come home from work one evening and find all those messages from and about Debbie Scales, who might well be considered the quintessential JAWS and access technology expert. Not only does Debbie know more than most of the top experts at FS and anywhere else, but in the great days of the JFW-Lite list, she was always willing to share her knowledge with great patience and that wonderful smile that just came through in all her messages even when most anyone else would be frustrated and ready to give up on someone who just couldn't get some crucial point. Debbie, it's so good to hear that you are on the mend and I'll continue to pray for your full recovery for you, your family and all those who love you.

Take care...
Dave Weddle

Some on this list might bounce this message because it is not exactly on topic but I am so happy to hear that my good friend Debbie is out there and, hopefully, getting better all the time. Debbie, if you could send me your email address off list I would love to write to you again. Everyone should know that Debbie probably knows more about adaptive technology than any computer whiz you are likely to meet. She has done countless favors for jaws users all over the world and is probably one of the most beloved people in our jaws community. Debbie, we all pray for your speedy and complete recovery. Hi everyone, this is Debbie Scales, many of you will remember me, I
used
to
run the JFWLite group and I also consider you many of you my very good

friend, smile. Well first just a quick update. To make a very long
story short, last summer I ended up in the hospital for 3 months and
the result
of
everything that happened was that I had to have my right kidney
removed. Even though I have had a pancreas transplant, and am no
longer diabetic, after 20 years of diabetes before the transplant, one

kidney wouldn't cut
it
and I had to start dialysis immediately. I am lucky enough that my
husband
and I (after training) are now doing home hemodialyis, which means I
don't have to go to a center three times a week, which I hated! Things

were
going
well, then I got a severe infection, and I'm really struggling to
recover from it still. So anyway....the reason I am writing is
because that I realize JFWLite has seriously not been kept updated for

a very long time.
I
really don't have the energy to go through all the programs to figure
out what needs updated and what doesn't, but if you want to write me
with the changes you would like to see, I will slowly work on getting
it updated at least. If you write to me, please understand if I am
slow to respond, I have not been on the computer for a very long time
and I certainly don't check my email 24 hours a day the way I used to,

ha ha. If you could remember to put JFWLite in the subject line I
would appreciate it so it would filter to my jfwlite folder. I hope
that everyone is doing well. Debbie Scales
