You'll need to go research the whole idea of BitTorrents for a full
explanation. It's a way of fast downloading of files, so that a single
server, which has a very popular file that many people want to download,
can't be overloaded and come to a hault trying to serve everyone.

Many articles are predicting it's going to be the way all file
downloading is eventually done because it's so efficient. It's just in
it's infancy at the moment however.
