Dr. William Moon was a British educator of the blind in the nineteenth century. When there were no less than 19 different raised line systems competing for the attention of the fingers of the blind. Most were extremely difficult to learn. Being line systems rather than dots as is Braille. He vowed to make the teaching of the blind his lifes work. He developed his system; and reported in his journal that a young man whom he tried to teach in vain some of the other systems for reading by the blind was able to teach this boy in 9 days to read simple sentences. Till recently it's writing by individuals was impossible. It is printed by printing presses rather than written by the blind as is Braille. The ability for individuals to write Braille is one of the reasons Braille is such a beautiful code.
