A couple of things come to mine. One, you might put the jaws cursor on the
blank, label it but that is not your answer. You could run auto graphics
labeler, but that probably won't do it for you either. The question I have
for you is what is your graphics verbosity set to. If labeled, try setting
it to all and see if that controll shows up as something besides a blank.

Subject: The Silent Control

Occasionally I encounter a program with a control that JAWS reports as
silent. Actually, JFW doesn't report its presence at all. I'm thinking
perhaps there is an adjustment that may need to be made, perhaps, in the
minimum icon dimentions. Any ideas?
Here is a real example, in Real Player (for playing MP3 and Windows Media
files it beats Media Player hands down), there is a way to sort the files in
"My Library." In my case, I have labeled the songs in the "comments" field
by rhythm category, e.g., rumba, cha cha, swing, and so on.
Of course, I haven't labeled all the songs. By sorting on the "comments"
field in descending order, all labeled songs should be sorted at the top of
the list. In standard windows form (couldn't find a keyboard command or a
menu option) one should be able to click on the table header label to force
a sort. I clicked all day on each of the letters of the word "comments,"
but nothing happened. Then, I moved the mouse pointer to the right of the
word "comments." JAWS said "blank," and I assumed that meant there was
nothing there. Never assume!
I did a left mouse click on the "blank," and my files were sorted just the
way I wanted.
Now, this has a happy ending, but the route to get there was more accidental
than anything else. There ought to be a better way. How can I make JFW say
something on the "blank" that is somewhat more meaningful than "blank." As
I said, JFW does not recognize the presence of anything.
