Adam, I can get to control panel and keyboard, and to speed tab, right
arrow to language tab, but alt e doesn't do anything. Could we be using
different versions of windows? I'm using win 98 SE?

There must be another way to clear the English United States from my system
tray.

When I get to the language tab, it says English United States 101.

Hope this gives you a little more information as to what is going on
because it sure didn't give me any more ideas as to how to get rid of the
English United States from my system tray. It never used to be there so
this is kind of strange.
