If you really want to remove Jaws 7, maybe ask the tech to do that before
returning the computer.

Do you have any start up managers? Did you remove shared files?

I wonder if it is safe to remove earlier versions of Jaws. Afterall. New
versions don't replace old ones.

I was just now thinking of cleaning out old versions on my computers but now I
think I'll just leave them alone. They don't take up that much space.

Well that's what they said the computer was doing; going to a blue screen.
I've never had it happen before and didn't expect it to happen a second time,
or I never would have tried to uninstall JAWS 7 the day after bringing the
computer home. The first repair cost $86, and I don't know what they'll charge
this time, if anything. They're very good about not charging if the problem
hasn't been resolved. I had the computer built there, so I trust them.

  Cindy,

I can't answer your question, but I can tell you something very similar
happened to me when I removed JAWS 6.2. After I went through the restart phase,
my computer wouldn't get past what I believe is called the blue screen, and I
had to pay to get my computer consultant to come in. We never did figure out
what specifically happened, but it's held me back from removing JAWS 8, which I
also planned to do. I never installed JAWS 7 because so many negative comments
appeared on lists like this.

And no, I didn't report it to FS because once the problem was fixed, there
wouldn't be anything for their tech assistance guys to look into. And if I
asked them to help me remove JAWS 8 so they could witness what happens, I'd be
stuck if the computer didn't get past the blue screen because no remote
connection can be made at that stage. I'd have to summon back my consultant.
His $125 an hour fee, justified by his complete dependability and the prices in
this city, has persuaded me to let JAWS 8 keep taking up space.

I'm just wondering if anything like this has happened to anyone.

I was trying to uninstall JAWS 7 from my desktop computer. I did this about
two, maybe three weeks ago. I got as far as the finish button, where it says,
you must restart your computer in order for the changes to take effect. I
pressed enter on the finish button and heard the closing sounds for Windows XP.
But, the computer would not restart. It sounded like it kept trying, but
nothing happened. So, I took it to the computer shop. I picked it up,
yesterday. They said there was a corrupted file in Startup, which they removed
and everything seemed fine. I brought it home and it worked well, until this
morning. Maybe I should have left well enough alone, but tried, again, to
uninstall JAWS 7. The same thing happened. After pressing the finish button,
the computer shut down, as expected, but would not restart. Needless to say,
it's back in the shop.

Any idea what could cause this?

  Cindy
