As this subject came up last week, I thought I'd dig out the source for
the company that sells a USB sound card with surround sound output
capability (no input capability) with a pair of surround sound
headphones; the link is:

When the card is plugged in, you change your windows config so that the
USB sound card is the preferred sound output device, and set it so that
windows will use devices other than just the preferred ones; that way,
when its plugged in windows will automatically switch over to it, and
when unplugged windows will go back to your other sound card.

It's very small and has three separate volume knobs, one for front, one
for rear, and one for side speaker levels. The headphones are extra
large and contain six speakers (3 for each ear).

Eloquence speech works just fine with this card.
