Avaya has software for certain of its phones that should do this.

From the Avaya web site:

Avaya Universal Access Phone Status for Communication Manager provides new functionality to users who are sight-impaired, hearing impaired or require unique speech capabilities in support of their business. This capability converts visual information on phone into audio, helping to enhance business communications. With the press of a button, users can hear caller ID or check the status of their phone (e.g. lines on hold, lines active, message waiting, call forward status, etc.)

Subject: Soft Phones

Our firm, this weekend, is switchout its present digital phone system. It will be replaced with Voice Over Internet Protocol ("VOIP").
I would like to have available to me some of the functions available to my sighted colleagues, namely, caller ID.
I think a great deal of the information that displays on an inaccessible digital phone may be available on so-called Soft phones -- phones that are, in effect, computer programs.
Does anyone know of a soft phone that cooperates reasonably well with JFW?
