On Windows Explorer, go to View and select
List. This is the optimal setting that is
recommended.

Stacey,
Usually these kind of information is
displayed at the status bar in a form
of tool tip. A tool tip is a small balloon
that appears besides the item
you are pointing to that describes what the
item is or how it works.
In order to have JAWS automatically announce
this, you'll need to turn on
Tool Tip:
1. Press JAWS Key plus 6 to go to Config
Manager.
2. Press CTRL plus Shift plus d to select
the default file.
3. Go to Set Options/Verbosity settings.
press enter on the respective
verbbosity settings button (there are three
of them, one for beginner,
intermediate and advanced).
4. You should land on the list box of what
JAWS says. The last item in
this box is an item titled "Tool Tip." Move
to this item and press SPACE
to check it. Press enter.
5. Now on the main Verbosity dialog, go to
OK button and press ENTER. At
the Config Manager window, press CTRL plus s
to save the settings and
press Alt Fbled to close the window.
From here on, the information that is
displayed on the tool tip balloon
will be read out to you, such as drive
sizes, description about files and
folders, descriptions about programs, etc.
