HRM that's good to know. So there might be a program that keeps my computer
from going on stand-by or hibernate.
The problem is that I need to keep those programs open because I use the same
programs for each class and they sometimes use internet which I have access to
in one class and not in the other.
But if that's the problem I'll keep a look out for the common factor.
Thanks,

Brandon,

No idea what to suggest. It may be that there is an application running or a
process running that does not respond to the normal shutdown command and either
continues to run or forces a complete shutoff.

I've cooked my laptop more than once in my backpack when I thought it had shut
down, but was still running. They get extremely hot if they don't have
ventilation. I always check now at the air vents to make sure there is nothing
running before putting into the backpack.

Now that is weird. It used to happen to me with win XP. I used to it shutdown
button to turn my computer off and for some weird reason my computer turned
itself on back again. Never could find a solution though.

I tried that, but every few times when I'd click hibernate it would restart
rather than hibernate.

  Brandon,

I recommend you start using standby or hibernate mode before closing the
cover.

    Hello,
I'm not sure what's going on:
About 1 out of every 5 times I close my laptop it shuts down. I'm not sure
if windows is installing an update or what, but it gets super super annoying,
especially when I have 5 or 6 programs up at once and I need to restart them
all.
And because I'm in school I have to close my lap-top at least 5 times a day.
This has always happened and I'm not sure how to fix it.
I changed the option to hibernate when the lid gets shut rather than go to
sleep, but that only decreased the shutting down from 1 every 3 times to 1
every 5 times and increased the time I need to wait for my computer to start up.
I'm not sure if there is something that says it will shut down when I close
my lid or what?
Any help would be really appreciated!
    Thank you,

    Brandon Keith
