right but I suggested putting in a share name because it's not working as
expected with what you describe below.

You type nothing for share name and you do not type anything for giving
rights to specific users. You share your drive with all users. Win98
doesn't have the ability to really seperate users like xp pro, NT4 or
unix based systems do. You have user profiles for limited things like the
desktop size but you can't control who has access to what programs and
what kinds of operations. Sean

I don't know what you mean by mapping the hard drive. I discovered that
there are two menu choices under the context menu is it, the one that
comes
up with SHIFT F10. One is called shared the other is a shared tab under
Properties but they are both the same thing.

I select Shared As, tab on to share name, an edit field, then tab on to
comment, another edit field then on to something called Name Access rights
extended select list box. There is nothing in this list box and it is not
an
edit box. The next tab is Add... button. Hitting on that tells me "You
cannot view the list of users at this time. Pleas try again later." and an
OK button. It is very much not OK but there is no choice.

Except for hitting on the cancel button I am told that I have selected to
chare but have not named anyone to share with and no matter what I do I go
back to that select list box and another notice that I cannot see the list
of users at this time and that I should try again later. So far as I can
tell this is an endless loop.

Nevertheless, thanks to you and Gerry, I had not thought to look for those
menus there even though they are proving to be useless.

Go into My Computer in your 98 machine and highlight your hard-disk. Map
it
and enable sharing.

Subject: Setting up home network with Jaws

Good evening,

I don't know if this is just ignorance on my part or if I am not seeing
something with Jaws.

I have recently acquired a notebook computer and a wireless router to an
ADSL modem, my desktop is direct wired, my laptop wirelessly connected, my
desktop running Windows 98 can see my notebook running XP Pro and my
notebook can see but not access the Windows 98 desktop. The message is
that
I don't have permission and should contact the network administrator and
the
path cannot be found.

So, back to the Windows 98 machine, I cannot see where I give that
permission. In the Network settings I can see file and printer sharing
enabled and have specified which machine but don't see where or how or why
I
can specify a user for that access.

I know some of you have done this stuff before and may be able to help.

I think this is a Jaws access issue but I realize it is also a Windows
"less
than obvious" issue which may have more to do with my limited expertise
than
Jaws. Help off list may therefore be more appropriate.

Thanks.
