Cy,

Likely some hardware in your Pavilion was not being recognized before and when
it was, JAWS assumed that the locking key was now different. The reboot likely
skipped that hardware and you were back to the old locking code. I'd worry a
bit about that, since it could happen again. Do you have some USB devices that
you can disconnect and/or turn off/on that might be causing this?

Dave

  Hi,

Well, this sorta fits into this thread.

I have aHP Pavilion 64 bit running Windows 7, Jaws 11.07 and Office 2007.

Now that we have that info in mind this afternoon I fired up the little beast
and, much to my surprise, JAWS told me that it would run in the 40 minute demo
mode and that I should authorize it.

I killed the laptop and fired it up again and, WALLA, all was well.

I had changed nothing on the laptop but, for whatever reason, JAWS was a bit
confused about the authorization.

  Hmm?

Not in any way to negate Roy's idea, I suggest that anyone experiencing
difficulties with this latest JAWS 11 release reboot not once, but twice. After
I installed the release and rebooted the first time, I found my arrow keys
weren't reading lines as usual, and like Bill, I had to resort to insert-8 on
the numpad. I noticed that another JAWS user I helped a few weeks ago had the
same problem. Rebooting solved it in his case, and it turned out a second
reboot resolved mine.

If that hadn't worked, I'd be following Roy's directions.

It sounds like you have installed some third party scripts that may be
messing with the default scripts.

  to test this

WindowsKey+R and then type jaws11 /default in the dialogue.

  InSERT+f4

press ineter on the ok button to unload jaws

  now pres enter again

JAWS will start with the default settings. try the research it options and
then if it reads properly that means it is something in your user folder.

Restart JAWS normally at this point.

  The problem should return.

I suspect you will find it is something in your user folder.

  Hope this helps some

  Roy

Hello. I am using the latest update of JAWS Version 11.0.1447 home with
Windows XP. After updating, I noticed that when I use Insert+space, then R to
enter research it, then navigate to the options and press space bar, none of
the items in the check box menu will read when I use the up and down arrows.
To hear them, I must press Insert+8 on the num pad.

I called FS and Jim told me to remove the default.jcf and the default.jsb
files. After doing this, the arrows did read the items in the menu.

However, after re starting my computer, the old problem again cropped up.

Has anyone noticed this problem, and if so, is there a solution among those
on the list?

As yet, there doesn't seem to be one from FS.

    Thank you in advance.
