Bill, in answer to your questions:

1. Yes, it shows etymology.

2. Although it doesn't have a thesaurus as such, it has synonym listings under many entries. For a thesaurus, you might do better to rely on MS Word's, if you use that application.

3. I have mine loaded on my PC. If it were on a CD, I'd find it easier to use an online dictionary. As I recall, you had some choices during installation. I had a bad experience when I installed everything, including pictures and sounds, so I reinstalled just the basic dictionary.

There are several nice features. One is that when you type a word in the edit field, you tab over twice to see that word and a list of the next seventy, which sometimes helps locate a word whose spelling you question. Of course, if that doesn't work, Google is wonderful at correcting spelling. After that list, you tab once more to get a full definition.

It's a comprehensive dictionary with exhaustive but easy-to-navigate definitions.

Jerry, feel free to add anything I've overlooked.

I have a few questions about this dictionary.

1. does it show the etimology (where the word came from)?

2. Does it have a thesaurus?

3. Do you insert the CD each time you want to use the program, or can you put the program and all its associated data files on your hard drive?

Thank you in advance. Bill White billwhite92701@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I was surprised to find how useful it is to have a very good dictionary on my system and so not needing to go to one online. The Random House dictionary sold by http://www.eLearnAid.com is JAWS-accessible, superb and cheap.

I am not a developer but I'd like a way to do my local news stories. I kept hoping they would actually add more items to it as we got the beta and then the final version, because for me right now part of it is useless since I don't tend to care about all the sports stuff it can supposedly perform. Great tool? Well maybe, wish I could add it to Jaws 9 for dictionary lookups, but my work won't switch versions because of all the scripting that was done for Dolbey Fusion, much of which only works periodically I might add. By the time we get Jaws 15, maybe I will have 11 at work, grin.
