I suggest disconnecting because you don't want your system to be bulnerable while it doesn't have an anti-virus on it. The simplest way to dissconnect is by unplugging your network cable from your computer if your computer is connected via ethernet cable to your dsl modem or router. If your computer is connected via usb cable, disconnect the usb cable from your computer. If your computer uses wireless, go to start->settings->controllpannel->system. From within system go to the hardware tab then device manager. A treeview should appearwhich says things like computer harddrives, network as you arrow through it. Go to the network section and find your wireless device. Select it with the enter key then press the disable button then click ok. After installing your new anti virus, plug back in any connections you disconnected before and re-enable any devices you disabled earlier.Of course, the simplest way to disconnect your computer from the internet is by disconnecting the phone line which connects your dsl modem to the phone jack. If your phone service goes through the internet with something like vonage or another voip provider, you will temperarily have no phone service untill you re-connect your dsl modem to the phone line. hth
