Hello Zhi, You got it right, and you solved my problem. Many thanks! Best wishes, Gezim From: Zhi Huang Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2010 3:57 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Reading attributes Hello Gezim, After testing myself, I think I understand and know how to fix your problem. 1. Go to your speech and sounds manager options in your JAWS configuration manager like you did before. 2. In the select schemes combo box, focus on 1 of the following: attributes and colors, classic attributes and font info, classic attributes, or classic attributes font info and color. 3. Navigate to the edit current scheme button with tab and press space to activate it. 4. Once you open this dialog, there are several tabs here. Navigate to the attributes tab by either navigating the first tab with tab or shift tab until you hear the name of the tab which should be general tab and then using the left and right arrows to navigate between the tabs. Alternatively, you can use control tab to move forward 1 tab and control shift tab to go back 1 tab anywhere in this dialog. 5. Once you get to the attributes tab navigate the tab with tab and shift tab and find a list view. 6. I only have 1 item here, but you might have more. Find default and based on your problem it probably says default speak text with the name of the voice that's set for you. If you tab to navigate there, you should find a series of radio buttons. Use the up and down arrows until you find the speak attribute radio button. For me, this is the first of 5 radio buttons, but it could be different for you. 7. Navigate back to the list view with shift tab to make sure you made the change. if the change is done correctly, it should now say default speak attribute using message voice. 8. Navigate to the ok button and press space to activate it. 9. You should now be back to the previous dialog which is speech and sounds manager options and focused on the edit current scheme button. if you now navigate with tab, the next is a save current scheme button followed by a save current scheme as button. Use the save current scheme as button to save the scheme where it gives you the option to give it another name. If you just want to save these changes without choosing a name yourself, then use the save current scheme button and it will name the new scheme the name of the scheme with the word modified at the end. 10. You can always navigate back to the select scheme combo box with tab or shift tab to make sure your new scheme is the 1 currently in focus. 11. navigate to and activate the ok button and save and exit this dialog. 12. This should take you back to the main part of the configuration manager. Close this with alt f4 and you should be set now. If you are asked if you want to save any changes, say yes. Hope this all helps and makes sense. The point is that I had configured JAWS in MS-Word exactly as you explained to me, but unlike in previous versions when JAWS would announce changing of attributes by saying "bold", "Normal" and so on, now JAWS uses a particular voice for bold, a different one for italic, etc. So what I would prefer is if JAWS would just say the word for the attribute, rather than using different voices. Hit Jaws key +f2 and scroll down till you hear Configuration manager. Hit enter. 2. From the configuration manager once you are in the application-specific dot jcf file, hit alt+u for the user options menu. 3. Arrow down to Speech and sounds Manager and select it. 4. Hit home to take you to the top of the list. The third, fourth and fifth options on the list are where you want to be. You can have Jaws read attributes only, attributes and fonts, or attributes fonts and colors. You can hit the tab key on each one and you'll go into a read-only field where you can hear or read a description oof how Jaws handles it. 5. Hit the one you want and close the configuration manager making sure to save your changes. You should be in business now.
