Hi Judith and Loreal,

You're right. Jaws will read VI as 6 all over the place. That's not the ideal situation, and there's nothing we can do to fix it because many programs are simply based on straightforward algorithms like machines, not on Artificial Intelligence that could bring logic, reality, and better interaction with users. I'm sure things will improve if programmers could learn a little bit more about Artificial Intelligence and operational mathematics. We'll all benefit from it.

The problem you will run into with configuring the Roman numerals is that for example, when you want Jaws to read VI as six when you get a message from a person named Vi you will hear Six. You can go through all the letter combinations and there are probably a few more like that. You can configure whatever you want but jaws will never tell the difference between a word and the Roman numeral. Judith

Your best bet as far as roman numerals is concerned unfortunately is to update your pronunciation dictionary... At least that's how I've had to do it. Unless there's another method I'm still not yet aware of...

    Hi all,

Is there a way to configure Jaws 6.2 to read Roman numerals as
numbers? I have a table listing items with roman numbers such as
I, II, III, IV, V, etc. Jaws says ve for VI when VI means 6.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Adam
