I'm not sure this method will give you access to the text within a text
box. With Word 97, 2000 and XP saving a document as text strips out any
text boxes, rather than including the text but without the text box.

When I encounter a word document that has several text boxes, I save the
file as a text document. It strips out the text box and leaves just the
text. You can still have the original word document if you need it. You
just also have the text version which makes it easier to read with JAWS
because it doesn't have all that fancy formatting.
