Hi,

Yes, you can have braille functionality without speech by putting jaws to
sleep. This how you do it:
While in the application, press jaws key and #6 on the keyboard. Press alt
and the letter S then arrow down the list to "advanced" options and press
enter. The first checkbox is for enabling sleep mode, check it by pressing
the spacebar then another option will appear and you tab once to it. It says
something like "unload synthesizer" and you want to check it. Tab to ok and
press enter.

Don't forget to control-S to save your change before exiting the confic
manager.
