Lately, there have been numerous reports on the various blind computing lists about problems installing and removing both AVG and Avast. Since Microsoft Security Essentials now offers a totally accessible free alternative that's a breeze to install and has been rated among the best at malware detection in comparitive tests, , it should be considered the anti-virus program of choice for most JAWS users.

Subject: Problem with JAWS and AVG 9 Download Manager

Hi All:

I'm using JAWS 11, but was working with someone over JAWS Tandem this morning using JAWS 10. She didn't have any type of antivirus program on her computer from what I could tell, so, I went to the internet through her computer and attempted to download AVG Free 9.0.

I went to free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe. I selected the 'Download from AVG Servers' link. After the file downloaded, I located it and pressed enter on it.

What came up is an AVG download Manager. I first needed to select the language for the download, English was the default, so I tabbed over to the next button and pressed enter.

On the next screen, I was presented with two options, either to install AVG Free or the more comprehensive AVG which would run freee for 30 days. My client wanted the AVG Free edition, so I attempted to locate the place to check that, assuming it was probably a radio button. I could not tab to the place I needed to check. I could not find it using the JAWS Cursor, and I could not find it using my Braille Display which was showing everything off my client's computer. Unless I can check that properly, I can't press the next button. I had to tell my client to get sighted help to install this.

The file I downloaded was AVG943free or something like that. Has anyone been able to install this using this download manager successfully using JAWS? If so, what's the magic trick?

Thanks,
